TODDLER LIFE | 26 MONTHS

I learned that the fastest way to see a little boy grow up is to bring home a newborn.  When Conner came to visit me in the hospital he was no longer my little bear that I left at home as we headed to the hospital.  I realized just how much he really has grown physically and developmentally.

Conner, you really surprised your dad and me about how easy you made this transition from one boy to two.  We've watched you take on this big brother role flawlessly over the past 2+ weeks.  You never once got mad at us for holding another little boy instead of you.  Instead, you constantly run up to him to kiss his head, peek over the pack and play as we change his diaper and give him protective hugs.  You love giving him his blankets and try so hard to put his paci in his mouth.  You even try lifting my shirt up at random times shouting, "Baby, heat! (eat)"... not too thrilled on having that much help.  You have been a perfect big brother.

Toddler Talks
Every months keeps bringing more improvements on his language skills, but this month has been crazy with how his sentences have grown.  Most of what he says now is in short sentences.  The other communication is a bunch of rambling with the last word being what he is talking about.  I have no clue what he's saying during these times, but it's hilarious listening to him rambling on until he get to the last word.

He can now say all but 5 or 6 letters of the alphabet.  When he gets to the letter 'K' he always.always.always blows a kiss rather than saying the letter.  I don't even try correcting him anymore because he's eventually going to figure it out, and I'm going to miss the kisses.

Toddler Play
Playtime has ramped up around here.  With Joe being home for the two weeks after Linden was born, Conner really had non-stop playtime with his favorite person.  For me that means that Conner's energy level goes from a 10 to a 15 on a scale from 1 to 10.  He has been constantly climbing everything, running his Tonka around the house every other minute, and throwing toys has become a fun new game for him.  [Insert stern look on my face here.]

His favorite toy this month has been the remote controlled helicopter.  Every five minutes all we hear is "wan ot" which we know means you want the helicopter.  He loves having Joe fly it around the house while he climbs up Joe's back to sit on his shoulders. It's his thing now to kneel on Joe's shoulders.

Toddler Eats
We made some improvement on the protein front this month.  This past week alone he ate sloppy joes made with venison, half a brat, and turkey.  We had to get creative with the turkey and hide it under chunks of avocado, but he ate it.

Other than the excitement of watching him eat meat, it's the usual favorites for him - raisins, fruits, nuts, veggies (he even ate pieces of raw onion with no problem), bread, oatmeal and yogurt.

This month he even had syrup with his pancakes and ketchup with his hotdogs and fries - something he was never willing to try before.

Toddler Sleep
This mama is already in a zombie state with having a newborn around, but for whatever reason Conner has decided that sleep is not his jam anymore.  He was always an awesome sleeper going to bed at 8pm and waking up around 6:30am plus a 2-3 hour afternoon nap. Ugh... Now it's the ultimate struggle to get him to fall asleep between 9 and 10pm and he's usually waiting for Joe to wake up by the time 5am rolls around.  I feel I need to mention that his energy level is full throttle the minute he wakes up which leads to him jumping on my bed while I'm trying to feed Linden in the morning.  I need a coffee pot on my nightstand to handle his energy first thing in the day.  And it takes multiple attempts to get him down for an afternoon nap. So there's that.

What happened to my awesome little sleeper??  I'm thinking that since he sees Linden up with me when it's his bedtime, that he naturally wants to be awake too. I'm hoping this changes back to normal fast!
