This weekend, like all weekends, has been flying by. The past two to three days have especially been a blur. Friday was Conner's last day with his babysitter, Jackie, before he starts going to daycare. He's been with her since he was three months old, so it was going to be one last special day that those two were going to spend together.
Unfortunately, when I picked him up on Thursday, he had broke out into a high fever, and this didn't play well into our plans for that day. We were taking Conner to meet his new daycare lady, Jodie, but while we were there, he slept the entire time. Well, that is until he suddenly sat up in my lap, gave me a desperate look of concern, and then threw up all over me. Talk about making a good first impression.
Since his fever was still running high on Friday, I decided to keep him home with me. We snuggled. We played. We went for a walk. We snuggled some more. We played in the sandbox. We watched The Emperor's New Groove (love that movie!). And then we snuggled some more before Conner fell asleep for a 3 1/2 hour nap.
For those 3 1/2 hours I walked up and down the basement steps carrying up everything I was hoping to purge at our planned garage sale on Saturday. When you're pregnant, this task takes so much longer than you hope it would. But, I did get some great breaks to talk and catch up with my mama, Jenny, and Sheri! That to me is a huge treat just to be able to talk not only my mom, but also my sister and sis-in-law all in the same day! Made my heart happy.
The rest of Friday was spent hanging out as a family and eating some delicious chicken tortilla soup for supper and me making a quick grocery shopping trip solo. After Joe put Conner to bed it was back to work with setting up for the garage sale. These days around here it gets dark around 9:45pm, so we folded and set out baby clothes under the lantern until about 10:30pm before I had to throw in the towel.
Saturday felt like a mad dash to finish line setting up for the sale. Conner's fever was finally starting to go down thank goodness! He showed a lot more energy and willingness to eat which was a relief. Conner did awesome all day! He greeted everyone that came and said goodbye to those leaving. I wasn't sure that he would do so well, but I should never have doubted that little boy. He made this mama proud!
That brings us here to Sunday. We notice Conner's fever was gone, but a he developed a rash on his little body. I'm so thankful my mom is a nurse. After telling her what he had been going through, she figured out that it was most likely roseola and that he was in the final days of getting over it now that the rash appeared. Other than the rash that hasn't even been bothering him, he's been his energized, happy self.
This morning we sat down and opened his gift that Jackie had sent home for him as a "goodbye" gift. As much as we are looking forward to his next chapter of life starting daycare, that little boy doesn't realize how much he's gonna miss Jackie. We'll be sure to have lots of playdates with her kids in the future!
The rest of our day will be catching up on chores and resting since it is literally a monsoon of rain and hail outside. We haven't had rain for quite some time, so it is really needed, but honestly, this is a monsoon.
And to wrap up our weekend, here's the July photo dump for your enjoyment:
We were on our way to the National Cherry Festival but decided that Moomers ice cream was a way better choice!
We are so lucky to have a family of deer that like to come visit and hang out in our backyard.
Fawns too!
We celebrated Grandpa's retirement earlier this month. He is now officially a retired lineman.
The man. The legend. Glenn.
Had to snap a shot of the brother/sister having a good time.
Conner loves his cousins... and Joe's phone. (Yes, that is a flip phone. Joe is old school.)
Grandma and Grandpa also celebrated their 62nd anniversary that day!
Of course, we have the child that couldn't resist sinking his little fingers into that delicious looking cake...
Sorry, Grandpa...
You are busted, Conner!
Grandpa received a very special gift from his fellow lineman. They took an old transformer and converted it into a tractor counterweight (John Deere theme, of course!).
Big helper! Packing his bag for the following day at Jackie's.
Who needs pants? They're overrated.
Can't forget our trip to Illinois and bike rides with some of the cousins!
Don't think I can't see you eating all of my flowers!
Trying so hard to be like Joe.

Saturday morning pancake breakfast with Dad. Complete with our mouths shoved full of watermelon.

Okay, so if you're ever in Traverse City, MI, you MUST eat at Slabtown Burger. A-MAZ-ING.
Conner developed a new obsession with using baby powder in his shoes. He can't live without it now.
Trying so hard to be like Joe.
