Not a bad little weekend here, folks. It's crazy to think that we've already hit the unofficial end to summer, but I think we can all agree that it's nice to have a long weekend with the family. And now that Labor Day will be here tomorrow, I don't have to feel ashamed to walk around stating that I am so ready for Fall and everything that comes with it - pumpkins, colorful crunchy leaves, crisp air, fall clothing (hello, mustards and navy blues!), and the smell of fall themed candles. Wait! Let's not forget about bonfires too! How can you not be excited thinking about that?
Joe's weekend started earlier than he anticipated. He ended up working through Thursday night/Friday morning and then got released for rest around 10am or so on Friday morning. I enjoyed my last "summer Friday" at work where we get off a few hours early every Friday. Nothing overly exciting about our Friday night. We just chilled and did our usual nightly routine - supper, play, bubble bath, Curious George, reading, bed, done.
Look at that attitude
We have fallen in love with bubble baths
On to Saturday. We had high hopes of joining Joe's family on a canoe/kayak trip down the river and follow that up with a crab boil at the river property. Joe and I are learning that sometimes we have to set our expectations a little lower with a toddler and up our patience with Conner and even toward each other.
Things just weren't working out to go on the canoe trip. Between Conner's now-daily toddler tantrums and my mood swings (these pregnancy hormones get the better of me sometimes) we were in no shape for attempting the river. And to top it off, there was no way I was waking Conner up from his much needed afternoon nap to go canoeing. Trust me, he is not a happy camper if you dare to wake him up before he's ready.
We did make it down to the river property to have dinner with the fam and thank goodness because we all needed it. And speaking of Saturday night dinner... crab boils need to become a Labor Day weekend tradition. We had so much food, and I think all that was left were a few pieces of corn and some stray shrimp. Have I told you how much Conner loves corn? Let me tell you, that little boy couldn't even wait for the corn to cook that he ate one whole cob raw. He also ate another whole cob after it was cooked. I'm still waiting for that epic diaper mess to show up. I'm estimating it will be here tomorrow.
This little cub loves his apples. Just has to eat them on the countertop too.
He eats corn like it's his job
Conner has a huge love for his Ma-Na. She just has a lot of tolerance for him.
I was secretly having a panic attack hoping he wouldn't fall in, but that water is so refreshing. Who can resist?
Very first s'more. This was huge.
Sunday. The best part with this Sunday is knowing that we get one more day at home together. Headed off to church and then some errands afterwards. I picked out fabric for the crib sheet and let me just say - I am so excited! I finally think I have a color scheme that I like so it's starting to get real.
The weather has been really humid and hot around here lately. The mall has a small indoor play area, but it's nothing overly special so we hit up the McDonalds indoor play area to let Conner have some fun and do what he does best - climb. He figured out how to make it to the top for the first time right about the time that Joe and I were ready to leave. So we were stuck there for another 10 minutes until Conner was finally ready to take the slide down and out.
This gave me a good laugh - Conner thought it would be fun to stick the end of his sucker in his sandal and then lift his foot to his mouth to enjoy it.
I was quite proud of my productive use of time this afternoon while Conner napped. I need to take a step back here and give a little history to this story. Back in June we had an incident with our bedroom closet. We had that white wire rack type on one of the walls when we moved in, but after too much weight with clothes, it collapsed. Talk about a huge mess. So Joe and I decided to just rebuild it into something more useful. Now that it's September... I finally took the time today to stain it. We are now just a couple steps away of having a closet again and getting our clothes off from our bedroom floor. Yeah, our bedroom floor has been a maze of clothes for months. But we're one step closer to a clean bedroom again!
I couldn't get a picture of the whole closet, but the shelving separates the two rack spaces.
Before Staining:
Can't wait to show the final product. After Staining:
We had a nice little visit from the farmer down the road bringing us some of the best sweet corn around. This absolutely got included in tonight's dinner.
This boy is crazy. He had his war cry going as Joe took him on a lap around driveway.
I hope all of you out there have a great Labor Day weekend!
